The MTABC is the provincial association for Certified Music Therapists here in BC. Not only do they support the music therapy community with trainings, the process of provincial regulation, and camaraderie (comradery?? Essentially making us feel feel heard, valued and part of a community!!), they also offer education to employers and the general public. We are often seen at booths in wellness fairs, community events, etc, and its usually the MTABC who organizes those. They are also working hard towards regulation in BC, which would mean that "music therapist" would be a protected title.

If you'd like to know more info about music therapy works, this is a great place to look!

Similar to above, the CAMT is the national association for Certified Music Therapists. They oversee Canadian bylaws and requirements to hold the MTA designation -  we must be a member of this association to practice in Canada and we are required to complete a certain number of continuing education credits every cycle. This website is another great place to look if you are wanting more info about music therapy, how to get an MTA to work in your organization, what qualifications to look for if you are thinking of hiring and MTA, etc.

The BCACC is the provincial association for clinical counsellors. They set the ethical and education standards that we have to meet  in order to have the Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) designation. This includes offering continuing education and supervision opportunities. The also provide education and resources to the public (RCC directories, advocacy, encouraging employers to allocate more fundingfor mental health, etc), as well as offer support and investigation into complaints about it's members. They are also working hard towards regulation in BC, which would mean that "counsellor" would be a protected title.

I aim to create a welcoming and brave space for 2SLGBTQIA+ people, and I work from a body and sex positive, affirming lens. I believe that Black, Brown, Indigenous and Trans lives matter and that therapy is political. What I mean by this is that we do not exist in isolation from external factors. Race, gender, sexual orientation, religion and other societal factors influence and shape our experience. Ignoring this and other intersectionalities in the therapy room is doing you a disservice and I want to honour all parts of you.
