Meet
Your Therapist

Being both a counsellor and a certified music therapist means I bring a special flavour of talk therapy infused with creativity. There are moments when talking doesn't feel quite enough, but maybe listening to a particular song is helpful. Or perhaps taking that song and writing lyrics that reflect your unique life experiences. With that said, if you don't connect with music, we won't use it. It is simply another mode of healing that I offer to my clients who feel they would like to explore it.

I aim to create a welcoming space for my clients to express themselves freely and show up without expectation.

I currently work with 8-10 year olds, tweens, teens and adults in my private practice.

I offer support around life transitions, grief, relationship struggles (boundaries, autonomy, exploring Ethical Non-Monogamy, etc.), anxiety, self discovery, motivation, and various other areas.

If you'd like to see how music therapy can support you with emotional and experiential processing, or if talk therapy is more your jam, book a free 15 minute consultation and we'll chat to see if we're a good fit for each other :)

Hi! I'm Alexina. I have been working full time as a Certified Music Therapist (MTA; MT-BC) since 2017, and in that time I have cultivated my authentic and relational therapeutic style.

In 2023, I took the plunge and officially launched Songbird Therapy, registered it as a BC business and have been offering music therapy at various organizations around the lower mainland. I am thrilled to be expanding my own practice (while still maintaining the connections of various contracts) to offer counselling services as well (If you want to read more about why I chose this name and how it may relate to you, click here!).

I am a graduate of CityU with a Masters of Counselling and I am in the process of getting the Registered Clinical Counsellor designation through the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (projected timeline is fall 2025).

Why It Works

New Awareness

Therapy can help to bring about new understandings or perspectives, gain new coping skills (and trust/adapt the ones you're using!) and support with making decisions about how you want to live your life. Many people find that they are stronger than they realize, and already have the answers they're looking for.

Improved Communication

Therapy can shed light on previous unwanted patterns and help to create ones. It can also support learning and practising new communication skills.

Stronger Relationships

Therapy can strengthen and bring a richness to many relationships. Being able to effectively communicate with others, as well as set and reinforce boundaries can create an atmosphere of peace, acceptance and mutual respect.

Living Authentically

Therapy can help you live the life you want. When you discover what's important to you and actively choose to live in a way that supports your values, you might find that  tough decisions get a bit easier. You may also notice that you're experiencing less emotional distress and anxiety.

Trans, BIPOC Pride Flag

I aim to create a welcoming and brave space for 2SLGBTQIA+ people, and I work from a body and sex positive, affirming lens. I believe that Black, Brown, Indigenous and Trans lives matter and that therapy is political. What I mean by this is that we do not exist in isolation from external factors. Race, gender, sexual orientation, religion and other societal factors influence and shape our experience. Ignoring this and other intersectionalities in the therapy room is doing you a disservice and I want to honour all parts of you.
