Songbird Therapy

Counselling & Music Therapy in Port Coquitlam, BC

A safe, compassionate space for in-person counselling in Port Coquitlam, with virtual support available across British Columbia.

You don't have to do this alone

A short introduction so you can get a feel for who you’d be working with.

Do you feel like something is missing in your life but you can't quite put your finger on it? It could be that you're not living as authentically as you'd like to be.

Many of the people I work with share that they feel stuck in some aspect of their life and want to deepen their connection to themselves and others.

I specialize in working with clients who are experiencing:

  • Grief and loss

  • Big life transitions (divorce, death, retirement, empty nest, etc.)

  • Relationship struggles

  • Exploring aspects of sexuality, and kink

  • Consensual Non-Monogamy (with partners or solo)

  • Topics around 2SLGBTQIA+ and kink communities

  • General life stress and feeling "stuck"

Counselling can be a space to explore and express aspects of ourselves without judgment. Together, we can create a plan that best suits your needs so you can live the life you want on YOUR terms.

"I planned this office with the goal of creating a place that people can come and

feel comfortable to be themselves.

In a world where the colour of the year is white, we are often encouraged to mute ourselves (energetically and vocally) and don’t always have access to spaces where we can show our true colours.

I chose the colour palette for my therapy office specifically to bring a since of calm (soft blues and white/light wooden accents) while also showing that

you don’t have to blend in and be like everyone else.

I mean - what therapist office has a turquoise wall?? Mine does. I want to be able to be myself at work, and I want you to have somewhere you can do the same.

Colour is encouraged here.

Don’t dull your shine for anyone."

I have been working full time as a Certified Music Therapist (MTA; MT-BC) since 2017, and in that time I have cultivated my authentic and relational therapeutic style.

I am a graduate of CityU with a Masters of Counselling and a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.

Being both a registered clinical counsellor and a certified music therapist means I bring a special flavour of talk therapy infused with creativity.

There are moments when talking doesn't feel quite enough, but maybe listening to a particular song is helpful. Or perhaps taking that song and writing lyrics that reflect your unique life experiences.

With that said, if you don't connect with music, we won't use it.

It is simply another mode of healing that I offer to my clients who feel they would like to explore it.

I aim to create a welcoming space for my clients

to express themselves freely

and show up without expectation.

How did you hear about me?

The Values That Guide My Practice

I aim to create a welcoming and brave space for 2SLGBTQIA+ people, and I work from a body and sex positive, affirming lens.

I believe that Black, Brown, Indigenous and Trans lives matter and that therapy is political. What I mean by this is that we do not exist in isolation from external factors.

Race, gender, sexual orientation, religion and other societal factors influence and shape our experience. Ignoring this and other intersectionalities in the therapy room is doing you a disservice and I want to honour all parts of you.
